"Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. “I am the light of the world,” he said. “Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.”"
When someone gives up their dependency on God and declares them-self as independent, in reality they are opening themselves up to the evil one. Once a person cancels their relationship with God, they have only their self to turn to at desperate times. Without the Light, the are totally unprotected from the devil, because they have rejected the protection that comes from the blood of Jesus.
Psalms 3:3, 8
"But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.”
"Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people.”
"“But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:”
The curses Moses spoke of, which continue through verse 29; these are the curses that come as a result of choosing to live without and against God. Yes, God is love, but He is also just. The Lord loves the sinner and continues the offer of pardon and salvation, but He hates the sin.
"Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
If one continues in this state of self independence, it is the choice of spiritual death (which is separation from God in the now and in hell forever). When a person chooses to separate from the Living God and the Lordship of Jesus Christ, who is Light and Life, they are choosing darkness and death.
"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.""
"As righteousness leads to life,So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death.”
"Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?"
2 Corinthians 7:10
"For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.”
I pray that the Lord will help us keep our eyes and hearts wide open to the Truth of His Word and to help us live in obedience to Him. The joy and security that we find in living our lives in close relationship with Jesus Christ cannot come from any other source and nothing else compares to the blessed life we have in the Lord.
The best choice is living a life that pleases God.
