When we take our eyes off our problems and turn them upon Jesus, by setting our minds on Him, praising Him, reminding ourselves that He is our Lord, that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and we have the same Spirit in us that raised Jesus from the dead, then strength and power start building up in our “inner man.” Also our trust in the Lord is increased, and we become enabled to overcome any fear. We are never alone, as God never forsakes us.
The Holy Spirit is not only always present in us, but He is always ready to counsel, guide, help, strengthen, encourage, empower and comfort us. If our focus is on Jesus Christ, we will fear nothing and operate from a place of victory and safety. We should have only one fear and that is the reverential, healthy fear of the Lord, to not displease or sin against Him. This holy fear causes us to do our best to keep our hearts pure and live holy lives.
If we are not careful, we can allow mass and social media or the people around us to cause us to fear or panic. Fear is more “contagious” than courage. Whatever is destructive and hurtful can get us faster than what is good, because of our sinful human nature. It takes effort and determination to remain positive, to keep a joyful heart and have strong faith in our Lord.
That is why people all over the earth have given room to the microscopic corona virus to become a huge monster. Who could imagine a couple of months ago that the whole earth will be isolated in homes? That normal activities like walking, riding a bicycle or eating out would become illegal? We need to remember that our God is Almighty, He can protect us and destroy this virus! We have authority over it in the name of Jesus Christ, if we are born-again! We need to choose between being fearful and allowing the enemy to contaminate us with his virus or to fully trust that our Lord helps and protects us because He is our refuge! I am not saying to be foolish and disrespect wise protection measures, but we should do it from a place of faith. We can dwell in His perfect peace if we focus on what we already know about God: He is life and He is love. He is Jehovah Rapha, “The Lord Who heals”!
We can take comfort in knowing that “He shall cover us with His feathers, and under His wings we shall take refuge” (Psalms 91:4) and that means that we can be protected from all viruses and bad attacks. The Lord does not allow bad attacks in our lives if they cannot work for our good, in the long term. Nothing evil can enter into God’s presence and that is where we find ourselves, while being covered by His wings! Hallelujah!
God is the source, the giver and the protector of life. Actually the Lord is life itself. We may live in our bodies only as long as His breath of life is in us! God is not only life itself, He is also love. To be able to dwell in God’s love we need to constantly set our mind “on the things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2) and to ask the Holy Spirit to help us understand the depths and magnitude of God’s love for us. The more often we do, the deeper we will be immersed and remain in His “agape” love.
If we look throughout history, we see that during extended periods of hard times, calamities, pandemics or wars, people called on God more and became closer to Him. God did not start the corona virus, but He will use its effects for the best for those who love Him and are “called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). Even atheists start to wonder if God is real, as they realize that all the things they were counting on are worthless, when it comes to remaining healthy and staying alive. Many Christians who lost their passion for the Lord or those who once followed Jesus and then went back to living in sin, start to seek the Lord again when everything around them falls apart. For all of us who choose to look at God and walk in faith, no matter what we go through, we may experience deeper peace, love and trust than ever before.
We are slaves to the one whom we obey (Romans 6:16). As God’s children, we should obey Him and not allow the enemy to make us fearful, which would make us the slaves of the evil one. The only fear that comes from God is the holy fear of Him, which keeps us on the right track and causes us to honor and respect Him. If we choose to live close to the Lord, we can walk in victory, overcoming the challenges of life. We live in difficult times now, more than ever, which means we need to strengthen our faith, study and meditate on God’s Word, with the help of the Holy Spirit, now, more than ever also.
The deeper we understand God’s Word, the more we believe it and the more it becomes alive in and through us. God’s Word is full of power and is meant to teach us all we need to know to be able to live victorious lives and be able to help others find Jesus and become free in Him also.
So, fear not! God tremendously values each and every one of us! He sent His Son to die for us, while we were still sinners, out of His pure, perfect and unconditional love. His purpose for each of us is to live for Him and make it to heaven, to spend eternity with Him and with those to whom we are a good testimony. So, let us stop worrying, refuse fear, embrace God’s love and trust in His provision, help and protection!
As Jesus said, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” – Mark 9:23
