“... Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!”
The Scripture is the main source of “spiritual food” for a Christian. If we don't feed our spirit (our born again inner man) on a daily basis, it will become weaker and weaker and eventually, it will die. Spiritual maturity doesn't come with age, it requires a life of prayer and worship of God, seriously studying the Bible and spending time in God's presence, seeking His face. The more we grow in our relationship with Jesus, the less and less we sin.
The Holy Spirit fills the heart that thirsts for His presence. He is so willing to be found by those who seek Him. He guides, comforts and strengthens those who seek His counsel and friendship.
- The word becomes alive and working in us, when we believe the Lord and let him do His work in us.
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
By studying the Bible, we learn to distinguish between what is carnal nature of soul or righteousness of the spirit. God created us to be led by the spirit, to be united with the Holy Spirit. When Adam and Eve chose to be led by the soul, the carnal nature, (“lust of the the flesh, the eyes and the pride of life" - 1 John 2:16). By ignoring the spirit, that was made to communicate with God, in the garden of Eden, mankind became soul-led, carnal-nature-lead, being interested in and led by one's feelings, thoughts and will, ignoring the voice of the spirit which is where we were once able to be led from. Jesus came to make it possible to be born-again in the spirit, by the Holy Spirit, for all those who want Him as our Lord in our lives. Christians lives are led by the spirit. 1 Thessalonians 2:13
“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.”
“So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”
- The word of God brings joy and delight in our heart, when we feed our souls upon it.
“Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.”
- The words of the Bible are spirit and truth. True life comes through the Scriptures for us, only when we believe them.
“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
- The word of God is clean, holy and life-giving truth.
“Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.”
“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”
If we don't study our Bibles, we can't know God. We would be clueless about what He likes and doesn't like. We would have no idea how to live to please Him. As babies and little children learn from their parents, as they grow spending time together, receiving parental love, care direction and protection, it is the same with us as God's children. By spending time in reading the Bible, praying, worshiping God and having fellowship with Him, we receive His love and we grow into what God created us to be.
Did you receive the love of our Heavenly Father today? If not yet, I am encouraging you to tell Him, how much you long to soak in His love and presence.
